Romans 8:26-28 NIV 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Isaiah 40:12-18 NIV 12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance? 13 Who can fathom the Spirit of the Lord, or instruct the Lord as his counselor? 14 Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge, or showed him the path of understanding? 15 Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales; he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust. 16 Lebanon is not sufficient for altar fires, nor its animals enough for burnt offerings. 17 Before him all the nations are as nothing; they are regarded by him as worthless and less than nothing. 18 With whom, then, will you compare God? To what image will you liken him?

Sovereign: God’s sovereignty is a natural consequence of His omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence.Omniscience is defined as “the state of having total knowledge, the quality of knowing everything.”Omnipotent comes from omni- meaning “all” and potent meaning “power.” He has all power over all things at all times and in all ways. Omnipresence omni- originates in Latin and means “all.” So, to say that God is omnipresent is to say that God is present everywhere. The fact that God is sovereign essentially means that He has the power, wisdom, and authority to do anything He chooses within His creation. Whether or not He actually exerts that level of control in any given circumstance is actually a completely different question. Everything that happens is, at the very least, the result of God’s permissive will.

“When you go through a trail, The sovereignty of God is the pillow upon which you lay your head.” C H Spurgeon

“In his sovereignty, God not only determines ends, He controls all the necessary means to accomplish those ends.” Steven Lawson

“The more we understand God’s Sovereignty, The more our prayers will be filled with Thanksgiving.” R.C. Sproul

  1. “God’s Sovereignty is …MERCIFUL.”
  2. “God’s Sovereignty is …GRACIOUS.”
  3. “God’s Sovereignty is …SLOW TO ANGER.”
  4. “God’s Sovereignty is …COVENANT LOVE.”
  5. “God’s Sovereignty is …FAITHFUL.”

God’s sovereignty does not negate our responsibility to pray, but rather makes it possible for us to pray with confidence. Jerry Bridges
